EARLY -- Graveside services for John W. Roland, 81, of Early, will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 19, at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Reed officiating. Heartland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be this evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Roland passed away Sunday, Oct. 16, 2005, at his home. John was born in Blackwell, Texas on Dec. 8, 1923, to the late Burly Roland and Eddie Mae Modrall Roland. On Oct. 3, 1942, he was married to Lois Sissom in Sweetwater. John proudly served his country during World War II through the United States Navy. He was the owner and operator of the Texaco station in Eden for 15 years. He was a member of the American Legion and AARP. He was a Baptist, and a charter member of the Fishermens Chapel at Lake Brownwood. He had been a resident of Brown County since 1986, he was formerly of Eden. Survivors include his wife Lois of Early; one daughter, Kathy Moore and husband Elton of Jay, Okla.; one son-in-law, Roy Dale Finlay of Early; one brother, Charlie Ray Roland of Blackwell; two sisters, Eunice Murray of Blackwell, and Patsy Boyd of Abilene; five grandchildren, Debra Patton, John Roy Finlay, Michelle Whitney, Elton Moore, and Patrick Moore; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Burley and Eddie Mae; one daughter, Linday Finlay; and four brothers, Valtun, Billy, Burly Jack and Cleburn Roland.
